The 2021 Exit West Red blend is our first offering of its kind. It is beautiful expression of our vineyard. It’s a stunning example of how impressive Bordeaux varietals can be from these soils. The wine has a beautiful nose of blackberry pie and black currant, anise and dried spices. The mid palate is lush and full and frames the fruit perfectly and the finish is all silk and savory tannins that seems to last forever. We believe that the Red Hills AVA is a tremendous place for growing outstanding Bordeaux blends and we think we’ve achieved our goal with this wine. It is delicious now, but also has the muscle and structure to last for decades.

This is a delightfully successful Bordeaux-esque blend that goes down with the polish of a much more expensive wine. The aromas are elegantly focused, and the scents of black raspberry, dark sour cherry, blueberry and boysenberry fruit rise above others of sweet baking spice, cedar, vanilla and an emerging hint of star anise. It is beautifully polished on the palate, where the tannins are notable yet never intrusive, and the pretty oak spice notes seem quietly luxurious. The finish is long and satisfying, and if this wine lacks the depth of great Napa Cabernet it is a pure pleasure to drink, especially with food.
