Eponymous Macallister Vineyard Red Wine 2007 750ml
Notes
You might recognize the the name of this label's owner and winemaker, Robert Pepi, because his name has graced bottles of California wine for decades. But when he sold his eponymously named winery, he also lost the right to his family name on future projects, and so the tongue-firmly-in-cheek moniker for this winery. The source for this wine is MacAllister Vineyard, near the ridge of the Mayacamas in the Sonoma Valley appellation, a site with diverse soils and exposures planted to Cab, Cab Franc and Merlot, all of which go into this blend. The wine is quite lovely, starting with its aromatic bouquet, filled with scents of menthol, tobacco, orange zest and red fruit--primarily raspberry and cherry--and equally pleasing on the palate, where it is wonderfully balanced and quite elegant. Hints of baking spices, cocoa powder and vanilla complement the fruit and linger long on the finish.
