Domaine De Montreuil Calvados Selection NV 750ml
- Calvados produced by the Domaine de Manoir de Montreuil in Montreuil-en-Auge, Calvados, in the Pays d’Auge appellation
- A blend of vintages made from 100% apples from orchards planted entirely in the traditional, free-standing hautes-tiges method (standard rootstock planted far apart)
- Cider is naturally fermented sur lie in well-seasoned tonneaux for one year
- Double distilled on a gas-fueled, copper alembic pot still situated at the domaine
- Aged a minimum of 2 years in variety of lightly used and well-seasoned French oak casks; the distillate is gradually reduced with rainwater
- A nose of triple crème, gentian, white pepper, fresh linen, and green apple skin extends to the fiery palate, pleasant tannin and slight salinity lingering on the finish
- Created for cocktailing and bottled at a higher ABV than most Calvados to help retain structure when mixed
- 44% ABV
93 points Vinous
More proof that younger Calvados have a purity and depth missing from many unaged spirts. Three years old, and greenish-yellow in color, this brandy has a gregarious nose, with aromas of apple pie and even pineapple turnover. But on the palate, there is both juicy acidity and an overarching roundness, still at the relatively high alcohol level. Fresh, dry, truly drinkable, both neat and in cocktails. A great value. (AOC Pays d’Auge, 44% abv.) - JW
